vs Ansdell 23/04/2008
V's Ansdell
Venue – The Fortress
Waiting for an Excelsior clean sheet is like waiting for a bus. You wait all season for one, then two come along at the same time. With the Macca's looking to prove they are no weak link it's no surprise we got our second so soon.
A hot Wednesday evening down at Moor Park, the fortress gates opened up for our travelling side, Ansdell. Four places and 13 points separate the sides in the league, with the in form Excelsior the higher of the two.
4-4-2 was the Gaffers plan. Ross in nets. Defence – Clarkey, Andy Mac, Scholes and Neil. Engine room – Toby Colson, Fiss, George and Dance Mat. Our in form strike partnership Wozzer and Sean. Toss up won and Ansdell had to kick in to the scorching sunshine. Their ever so clever long ball tactic was definitely out of the question with the glaring sun burning in to the retinas like a hot poker.
We started well. Won the early important challenges and, at times, got the ball down to play some football. Anything long and ugly (not a reference to their left back, but I can see how you could be confused) was soon tidied up by our more vocal back line. A couple of squandered chances and some average keeping kept Ansdell in the game at 0-0 for around 15 minutes, most of our moves were just lacking that final touch.
It was hard work in the heat but the opening was eventually made through some great work and good football passing. The ball dropped to Craig Worrall, who was forced wide. After holding up the ball and two defender he rolled the ball in to Fiss' feet, just right of the penalty spot. The rest was just hit the target and 1-0 us. The second came 10 minutes later. The corners had been causing Ansdell problems all game, it was almost inevitable that one would end up in the back their net and almost unpredictable that Andy Mac would be the scorer.
The corner was whipped in at that awkward height and again Ansdell struggled to clear their lines. Andy Mac ran in like a man possessed and smashed the ball roof of the net for 2-0. Dance Mat was having another decent start to the game. Unfortunately he took an early knock and had to call it a day on around 30 minutes. Steve Mac came in at centre half and Scholes moved into the left wing position.
Half Time. We knew the next goal would be vital and the Gaffer hammered the message home during the interval. Water was in great demand after a sweltering first half. Fortunately it was much cooler in the second. The sun had dropped to the cheers of the Ansdell long ball die hards.
Off we went for another 45. We got straight into them from the off, looking and pushing hard for the vital third goal. More close calls from corners came. Steve Mac was unlucky not to have been on the score sheet as he watched his goal bound bullet header hit a couple of bodies in a crowded box.
The third did eventually come our way. Craig Worral made it 27 for the season with some nice work and a well taken finish. We kept pushing and playing, everyone doing their bit for the team and the clean sheet. Plenty being created down the left and right with some nice flowing moves. Wozzer's second came soon after the hour mark. A nice solo run and the most delightful little finish through the keepers legs gave us our forth and really did stop the Ansdell heart beating.
We played out the game to the end with style. Looking for a fifth while still holding on dearly to the second clean sheet of the season. Out come the subs. YTS Danny and a new player came on for Scholes and Toby Colson.
The win was pretty much a confirmed kill at this stage and subs really slotted in well.
Final Score 4-0
Man of the Match – Andy Mac. The man with a point to prove and he certainly did prove it. Didn't lose a header or his man all game. Commanded well at the back and scored a cracker. Wozzer was a close second with some nice passing on the floor and two goals, great to see.
Sean your running and hard work didn't go unnoticed.
Moment of the Match – Ref hears a swear word coming from Toby's mouth and blows the whistle, keep in mind Toby was probably stood just inside the Ansdell half when he swore. 22 confused men look on. The ref issues a yellow for swearing and gives Ansdell a free kick on the edge of our area. Had me baffled anyway.
Well done lads. In the last 2 games that's 9 scored and big fat zero conceded. Give yourselves a small pat on the back, lets see if we can keep the recording going for as long as possible. Definitely the end of the season. It's great to see how our goals/ambitions have changed as we've accomplish them. I remember a part of the season when all we wanted was to win 2 on the trot. Now look at us, we want clean sheets every week. Nothing wrong with that and it is a true quality of a champion.
Fiss – going nowhere for any dim witted moron who was even remotely taken in by Auto's rubbish.

Match Ratings
Still didn't reach top gear - pitch hampering our slick passing style but non the less, efficient performance
Ross 7 - Didn't have much to do but dealth with everything that came his way as required
Daz Clarke 7 - Very solid, didn't loose a tackle and played some intelligent football.
Neil 7 - Becoming Mr Consistent now at the back. Confidence is getting better with every game and has more energy that the back four combined (not difficult)!!
Scholesy 8 - thought he was quality, solid at the back and excelent down the left with some killer through balls
Georgio 7 - Done the business in midfield, moved the ball around and showed some nice turns and control
Fiss 8 - Good strike for the goal endless running around the pitch and won a lot of headers
Myfanwy Colson 7 - Unlucky not to have scored, twice, played well along the right but was unfortunate that the majority of the play in the 2nd half found it way to the left
Dance Mat 7 - Didn't have the best of games until his injury. Could do with releasing the ball a little sooner at times and picking the right to take people on
Wazzle 9 - Awesome up front - something we are coming to expect now week in and week out. Nice back heel as well
Sean 8 - Running and battling all over the pitch. Won some good headers and was trying extremely hard for the partnership up front with one twos and flick ons.
Steve Mck 7 - Same as always - solid. Awesome block tackle in the box in the second half.
Young Dan 6 - didn't have time to impact but kept with the pace of the game and looked sure on the ball
Neil's Mate 6 - Showed a nice dummy and turn but again didn't have time to impact.
