red rose catering 14/9/08
First game at our new home, Squires Gate FC against Prem side Red Rose Catering FC.
Gaffer Steve was having a another weekend off so it was up to Jon to pick the team, promises were made last week to the 7 subs that they would start this week as part of Rafa Downings rotation policy. Alot of absentees this morning so Excelsior were in the unusual position of only having 14 players.
We lined up, Ross in goal, Daz Worrall right back , Greeny and Nico with Neil left back. Ryan for his first start on teh right, Fiss and Hopes in the middle, Jeffrey on the left. Woz and Sean up top.
Excelsior matched their Prem opponents for about 3 minutes when it became clear we were up against it. Red Rose simply sliced us open and made use of the great pitch and width on offer. Expecting a day watching the game Mercer found himself on the pitch within 15 minutes as Ryan had had enough, perhaps he knew somehting we didnt? Anyway Ryan it was a good 15 mate! It was 3-0 before Excelsior could take breathe, a mixture of comical defending and nonchalent goal keeping our downfall. We managed to go in 3-0 at half time without creating much ourselves.
Second half wasn't any better, Mercer grabbed a consolation 5 minutes into the second half but that was as good as it got. Red Rose stepped up a gear and took advantage of tired legs eventually running in 9 goals. Willacy replaced Lonsdale and Wilson came on for Daz Woz for his first appearance.
Positives from the game were few and far between, the ref had a good game, but Excelsior were nowhere near their best and even if they had been they probably would have come away with nothing.

Ross 4 - Didn't look in the slightest bit interested today.
Daz Woz 5 - Got caught out alot, not his best game
Greeny 5 - No glaring errors but 9 goals conceded tells the story
Nico 5 - same as above
Neil 5 - Made some bad errors, not goal side of the player, far better second half though.
Ryan 4 - What can I say?
Fiss 5 - Tried but was swamped in midfield
Hopes 6 - Probably our best player, decent game.
Jeff 5 - Couldnt get in the game
Sean 4 - Again couldn't get in the game.
Woz 5 - Looked dangerous when he got the ball but often chose the wrong option.
Andy W 5 - Got involved but no impression on game really
Wilson 5 - Not a bad effort
Ratings may be a bit harsh and are probably more a reflection on how good they were.

You were pretty shit on Sunday Sean, don't be scared of it just use it for focus next time.
I was by no means up to my usual game, I’ve come to terms with it and will do better next time for sure.
It’s not going to get any harder than that on Sunday so lets just learn the lesson and move on.
We need to be playing better football on the new pitch otherwise we will be exposed again. It has to be simple, on the deck and moved left to right until we open them up. Our impatient build game has to stop on this whopper of a pitch.
Space was so easy to find we just didn’t seem to want to play the ball to the man in it. Our shouts for the ball were embarrassing; all I could hear when I was on the ball was yapping dogs making an effort to say ‘Fiss’, when you look up its like a game of spot the striker because you’ve just telegraphed your whole move and the defender is waiting to intercept.
We need to be fitter and faster if we want to make this pitch a fortress, if you can’t manage that then I suppose you’re f*cked, you best get smarter. It will come the as we adjust to it but obviously the sooner the better.
We expected a smashing and got one lets just remember what our home pitch is like for next time.

you were all brilliant
fuck me boys its only a laugh but we did get beat 9-1!We were always up against it against them boys but most of us didn't perform how we can. Neil you did make some good interceptions and did run your tits off, the ref commented on it after the game,but you also got wrong side and skinned on numerous occassions. Doesn't matter now, move on to next game. Noone else has put any ratings on yet???
Neil = 5, no way
Neil you were lucky to get a 5, the whole back line gets 4's and 3's for me pal. We just didn't have any protection for Ross and his freshly buttered gloves.

Ross - 0 - If your scored 9 in one game u'd expect MOM, so consider conceeding 9 and what do you expect? Clean changing rooms.
Dezzy - 3 - I don't like moaning on the pitch at all.
Nico - 4 - We conceeded 9, something went wrong.
Greeny - 4 - We conceeded 9, something went wrong.
Neil - 4 - Ran all day but to what effect? We still lost 9-1.
Ryan - 0 - Pointless 5 minutes
Mercer - 5 - Got our goal, nearly a 2nd. Didn't harrass the winger or full back as per.
Hopes - 8 - Did nothing wrong, used the big pitch well
Sean - 4 - Needs to play like he's at training. Didn't really do anything
Wilerpy - 5 - Did well when on the ball. Defensively poor.
Wozzer - 5 - One moaning outburst is too many. Couldn't get in to the game.
Willy - 5 - Did well apart from looking somewhat lost on a football pitch.
Anyway............we're concentrating on the league.

Fiss pal i agree moaning doesnt get u anywhere cos i ranted for half an hour for somebody to mark their big no.11 and- it didnt get me anywhere. I think one of the central pair should have been on him but instead he was left and it got rather frustrating when he roamed to the right and left one twoing mine and neils asses and even moreso when midfielders were left to join in as well! Just to mark the man i should have been would have been a doddle. Personally i think everyone deserved 3's (Andys scoring system) including ALL the midfield. Defending was poor but the midfields defending and general positioning was poor. Dont want to leave the strikers out- shit as well, with the odd exception of a couple of my bros runs. Also not forgeting Andy Wilacy- battlecry at half time "let me at em-" shit as well.

Don't want to p*ss on your bonfire but the no 11 was playing up front. He was just dropping a bit deep. Fiss and I already had 2 men in the centre. Red Rose were playing 4 - 4 - 2 with no 11 being one of the guys up front.

Didnt mean you two, meant the centre defence. Glad you noticed him dropping back though, shows someone else was paying attention to what was going on.

Fuck me boys, sounds like we're gonna need some counselling after that game!! I do however admire the harsh ratings people have been touting, we are always quick to dish out the 8s,9s and 10s but with that we need to display a few well-deserved 1s and 2s as well. Roll on the evenhanded approach to the scoring system and at all times bare in mind that even if we did win and by a good margin, if you didn't brake sweat or contribute too much EXPECT A 6 and accept it greatfully.

When i was doing the ratings I kept hearing a voice strangley similar to Andy's saying A 6 IS AVERAGE. Hence my ratings, I hope they make you happy Andy!
