Skye FC - 8/2/2009

Venue – The Fortress

Last week was a week to forget for us at Excelsior but this week will be a worse one for the man who tried to bring us down. We've bounced back and he's looking at losing his place at the league. Justice.

We were all rounded up early to find the pitch a touch on the firm side. Skye were hoping for a cancellation due to a poor turn out. Unfortunately, for Skye, the Ref made the correct decision to play the game.

A few changes in the side this week, for obvious reasons. Ross in goals. Back four Nico, Greeny, Perky and Neil. Middle of the park Smudger, Hopes, Fiss and Lizzy returning after a few weeks away. Up front Mercer and Wozzer. Another full bench consisting of Dezzy, Gaz, George, Rhino, Sean, Carey and Macca.

Waiting to start the game and Skye had only nine players. What a cop out, we came for a game and we were looking at a victory that we would not be proud of regardless of the score. Out of the blue, two new Skye players appeared from nowhere and they had a full compliment. The new lads looked ever so familiar but surely a team that got shit on by most last week would not lend players to another team for a fair game??

Skye got us going kicking towards the road. As soon as we found our feet it was one – nil. The ball dropped kindly for Greeny on the edge of the area. Green pulled the trigger on the half volley and ball sailed in to the top corner.

We did not wait long for the next. Some nice work between Lizzy and Hopes on the left created some space behind the full back. Lizzy played the ball across the box to an unmarked Fiss who hit ball first time over the keeper but under the bar. 2-0

The chances were coming thick and fast and number 3 inevitably came. A nice move between Hopes, Nico, Fiss and Smudger ended up with Hopes taking a powerful shot at goal that the keeper could only parry. Mercer ran on to the re bound and tucked the ball in the back of the net. 3-0

Just before half time and Wozzer got himself back in the mood. Another good move left Wozzer clear in the Skye box. After missing a couple ofchances Woz made no mistake. 4-0

Half time. The main shout was again the moaning at each other. We were 3-0 up and we still had our favourite critic causing rows on the pitch. For the last time, this has to stop. We sound like a bunch of girls. Look how stupid the Skye FC player V's Skye FC player heavy weight ding dong was
in the first half. Sure they took an argument to the next level but still pathetic to see two adults going for it over what could only be a scrap over who is the heaviest player in the team.

Out we came and only one of the Heavy weight contenders came back out. Great news, Skye have a new big on the throne but we were looking at playing the rest of the game against 10!

To put it in a few words we really dominated the rest of the game. Everyone in the team saw today as the day they would get a goal or two and went for it. Shape was none existent at times but we saw out the game adding five more goals to the tally.

Sean came on and grabbed two. Two great finishes and could have had a hatter in the 20 minutes he was on the pitch. Wozzer got himself three more. One a penalty and the other two from running on to through balls, one a very nice lob.

Full time
FC Excelsior 9 – 0 Skye FC

Man of the match – Smudger. Great game. Kept the ball well and was involved in most of our attacking moves. Really stood out this week.

Moment – The big men kicking off in the first half. Really really pathetic. Was someone playing bad and didn't like being told? Did someone have the last biscuit? Either way – no excuse.

Ratings (Don't be scared get involved)

Ross – Nothing to do – 6
Nico – Pushed on well and played some good football. Not tested
defensively but got in the game by attacking – 7
Perky – Not much to do at the back. Won all his headers and nearly
scored in open play. The moans have to stop so I'm marking the big man
down – 6
Greeny – As the rest of the back lads, nothing much to do. Got the ball down well and scored a cracker – 8
Neil – Got forward well like usual. Hunger for a goal did leave us light at the back at times but still another good game – 8
Smudge – Did everything right. Kept the ball down. Involved in most good moves and always looked to get the ball in to the box or to feet – 9
Hopesy – A good game. Ran round all game and got stuck in. Kept the ball moving and short. Won all headers asked of him in the middle of the park- 8
Lizzy – A quiet one for Lizzy. Did set up the second goal and threatened down the left at times when involved – 7
Mercer – Quiet for him as well. Got his goal and tried to use Smudge as much as possible – 6
Wozzer – Did score four goals and found space for himself but how many did he miss? Definitely could have scored 6 easy but we'll take four this time – 7
Sean – Class when he came on. Looked like the player we had two years ago. Running for everything, chasing down players and finishing with confidence – 7
Dezzy and Carey – Not really involved in the little time they had on the pitch – 6

A few good ratings and we got nine but lets not get too excited, they were rubbish and nothing like a the top sides we need to beat.

I would like to say well done to the lads from Skye FC who came to play even though they are finding commitment an issue at the club. We all know it's the pits when you're getting smashed week in week out but well done for the lads who turned up and didn't stop trying.

shame

The guy needs to grow up, telling tales on us and getting kicked out of Bloomfield Rd, joker.

Bit quiet on here this week?

Steve Mercer | Wed, 11/02/2009 - 17:23

I agree Merce

These Ex-Waterloo fags don't like getting involved in the club website, they'd rather bicker and talk about how they'd have the team, who's not playing well and so on. Winge winge winge creating problems we don't have!!

The Excelsior ain't what it used to be

Dezzy

Can't even coax Dezzy into a few comments this week. Maybe I should post my ratings might bring a few out to play?

Ross - Not alot to do, kicking not great but clean sheet 6
Nico - Mr reliable, always confident with him at RB 7
Neil - Good energy as ever and great tackle on me in the first half, stopped a certain goal for us! 6
Green Giant - Great goal, not found out this week but not tested 7
Per - If his football was as good as his ranting he would be a very good player 6
Fiss - Good goal, steady game 7
Smudge - Not many Division 1 standard crosses on show today, gave the ball away cheaply 6
Hopes -Good game, used the ball well, unlucky not to score 7.5
Lizzy - Struggled to get into the game, some good runs 6.5
Woz - 4 goals, nearly back to his best 7
Sean - Did well when he came, good energy 7
Carey - All i can remember is that shot 6
Dezzy - Sorry Dez didn't see you touch the ball as I was getting changed but I'm sure you played well 10
Johnny Evans - Looked good at RB for Skye, solid 7
Jimmy - Was Skye's only outlet, unfortunately he was playing in a very crap team 7
Gaffer - every credit for holding your hand up after the game but my vote goes to Scolari now he has been sacked by Chelsea 7

For me that game topped a shit week, pointless game, whats the point in turning up with 9, well done to lads who volunteered to make their numbers up. At least the job got done.

hook, line and sinker

Per Per Per, your missing the point completely. If you had read through properly and had any intelligence you could see i was setting up certain biters in our team with my ratings. Let me give you a clue, my ratings to you, Greeny, Smudge, Neil were light hearted aimed at getting a response and getting a few more comments on the site. For example last week Smudge had a rant at me inferring (look it up)I wasn't good enough and wouldn't get in a Div 1 team, so this week I made a reference to that in my ratings.

I suggest we don't do ratings any longer on the site until a few learn not to take it seriously or not bother looking.
For Per, Smudge and anyone who wants to have a pop at me (and I know when its banter and when its not) I'll point you in the direction of the Top Goalscorers chart and let you count up all the assists from my direction, dirty knees or no dirty knees. xx

Ratings etc

Not the easiest of games to play when the opposition turns up with 9 men but fair play to Skye for givin us the game it'd been much easier to sack it off n at least it gave us a bit of scoring practice.

Still, in periods of the game we looked pretty tame, and this has been our downfall in recent weeks when we have failed to get going. Our movement needs to be better as a team and i'd like to see players making good runs and demanding the ball for our midfield to pick out. Anyway, down to business...

Rossco P Carter - Didn't have much to do - 6
Nico - Solid and dealt with most things that came his way - 6
Neil - Needs to be a bit more composed but a mint tackle on Merce - 6
Greenday - Top finish and defended well - 7
BigPer - Demolished anything that came his way - 7
Smudge - SHowed some excelant touches, best is still to come if training has anything to go by - 7
Lizzy - Unluck with 'the Babel' but struggled to get in to the game, perhaps should have come inside looking more - 6
Fiss - Top finish, and kept the ball well in the middle - 6
Hopsey - Total legend, the only man I have ever seen booked for diving on a sunday!! Got megged and still with the legoman haircut ha ha - 6
Wazzman - Good to see him get back amongst the goals, still to get back to his best but a couple of cool finishes shows he's on his way - 7
Merce - Intelligent runs all game and sniffed out a disgusting goal like the rat he is - 7
Sean - Despite his buffont, managed two cool finishes n should have bagged a third - 7
Carey - superb ball through to sean progressing well - 6
Dezzy - bit tight to have only 5 ins in an easy game - 6

Barnet

Hello Andrew,

If lego head Hopes and Massive Buffon Lonsdale styled their hair like mine on a Sunday morning, would they receive higher ratings?
