Brun Grove 25/01/2009

This day has been coming. That long over due kick up the arse that we needed to hopefully get us back on course and firing on all cylinders again.

After it tipped it down all night it was no surprise to find our pitch a touch on the boggy side. Luck would have it that our game was on the pitch with the 10 degree incline so the most of the rain water had made it’s way off the pitch.

Lets be honest, we started the morning off all wrong. The warm up was pointless, some seemed to just lethargically stroke the ball to one another while others were seeing how high they could kick the ball or crossing ball’s in for the injured Hopes to smash past Hunty.

It was not good enough, it is no wonder we started off slow.

The Gaffer ringing in just the one change from last Sunday’s team. An injury to last week’s hero, Ben Hopes, made way for a starting debut for Truby.

From the off you could see it was not going to our morning. We lost the toss, they had the choice of sides (preferring to play in to the sun for whatever reason) and the Ref gave them centre!!!

Off we went at a pace worthy of the veterans’ league. Our opponents had to come to the park for our scalps and we’d all come to the park for the teddy bears picnic.

It was clear to see we did not like it on the poor surface playing against tactics similar to Wimbledon of the late 80’s. As soon as we realised we were in a battle we just did not want to know.

We conceded a poor opener. The long ball over the full back evaded our defence, the winger delivered the cross, the striker fell over, the ball hit him in the head and some how looped over Hunty.

We were on uncharted territory being a goal down, playing poor and getting our spirits crushed.

Before half time we leaked another. We lost the ball cheaply in the middle of the park and conceded a carbon copy of the first goal only this time the winger came in unmarked and dispatched a nice headed finish.

In we came, heads down, two nil down. We had hit self destruct at times in the first half. Bickering was going on and it was not helping us. We lost our togetherness and most importantly our team spirit.

Bad attitudes were rearing their ugly heads and I just felt like telling a few people to get their bags and fuck off, but that’s not my call.

We started the second half, the only change was Smudge coming in for Sean up front. We managed to get a strong hold on Brun Grove without creating many clear cut chances however they still managed to threaten with the good old long ball over the top.

Greeny got us a goal back with a great great finish, suppose somebody had to show us how it was done. They got another from a poor stray pass in midfield and it finished 3-1.

To summarize, we had a fight on our hands that we did not even want to try and win.

That was the worst I’ve seen us play for ages and I’m prepared to take some responsibility for it. I made some silly mistakes. A spliff or 3 before the game did not help, letting Per dish out the beastings, letting people get in my head and generally not being up for the battle.

As the captain I have to take responsibility, next week will be different. I will be straight headed, I give out the beastings on the pitch and I will hand my body over to the property of FC Excelsior for 90 minutes.

In my opinion Steve has every right to drop any if not all today’s starting eleven. Plain and simple – not good enough.

Next week everyone on the team is playing for their place, we need the bit between our teeth, we need to get behind one another, we need our team spirit back and we certainly need that big win!!!

What the HELL was that!!

I have to say that was our worst performance of the season evan lower than paris. I dont know what went wrong. No Team spirit no cohesion, no wantancy to win. They came like they wanted to destroy us we came expecting to win. We got what we deserved which was nothing.

I am going to share the blame as well and maybe i have disrupted the side to much, but i have to say that the 11 players on the pitch didnt turn up. The pitch wasnt favourable but they had to play on it as well. maybe thats a problem you are used to playing on that good surface at home not the bog of a pitch like that. our passing was off our chances were not taken. This has been coming for a few weeks. We seem to have lost our Way.

I surgest you do what your captain is doing and take a long look at yourself dont blame anyone else and come back next week and prove a point. That you do want to win this league and the cup and that we are capable of doing so. If we carry on playing like that our season will be over very quickly. we cannot afford another defeat.

We are now 4th and a top 2 finish has to be are goal. We still have 10 games to go and 3 important games against fairhaven and fleetwood. Everygame is a must win game.

its down to you lads dont waste this chance you have worked hard for it we all have dont let this season go to waste.

Come back as a team looking out for each other wanting to play for each No bickering, encouraging each other.

I think what we need is to

I think what we need is to get back to basics remember where we have come from and not who we think we should be, Lets play football, be a team, work together support each other. And take one game at a time.

shite

well fizzy chops that was quite something i dont think that was the worst we played at all, the problem we have is there is to many players who wont stand up and be counted for and in a game like that we needed to be i no im being harsh but let me tell you something else we can forget div 1 with attitudes like that we badly need to look at our selves and have a think because if were not ready for a fight till the end we might aswell just wrap up now because we are the team who everyone wants to beat so lets put that performance to bed have a good training session tomorrow and go and stuff them wankers on sunday ,,,, the green

Spiderman

Unfortunately I will be out for a few weeks due to a nasty bite from a household spider which has led to an op! But otherwise I am gagging to get back in the mix.

At the start of the season we didn't have too many changes from the last other than a major one - an attitude change. We became a team that wanted to win and more often than not did. Each game is a battle and we need to start off every game by attacking every ball then the second ball and then the third... Our football is more than good enough to put teams to the sword and that is what we were doing earlier in the season, after we won the other physical and mental sides to our games.

I think our new players have not disrupted the side and from personal experience they should make players hungry to get back in the team and prove that they are good enough for a place.

Steve is right, back to basics. We need to approach every game with respect and win the small battles all over the pitch and take each goal as it comes before we can declare a win.

It is still ours to win boys, we just need to take a different attitude in to the changing rooms.

I remember something.....

Hey guys something that springs to mind, i remember watching you guys smash progress 7-1 i think.... you could not wait to play them... you were all like Jenna Jameson setting eyes on a willy...(just wanting to get down to business) i have not seen you guys quite that hungry again.... i know its not easy getting in that frame of mind every week... but guys! you can do it!!! all you have to do is think like "Jenna" think! "LONG" think "HARD" and you will get there.... and then my friends you will win the league.........................................Wesley Snipes
