Brun Grove 13/04/2008
Venue: Stanley Park
After last weeks disappointment in the cup FC Excelsior were ready to sacrifice bottom of the league Brun Grove to make amends.
With four games remaining the season is well and truly coming to an end. Could our growing injury list get any worse before the season is out?
You’d have thought not.
With John Evan (leg break), Carey Baird (cruciate), Scholes (knee) and Fiss (stitches) all out of action you would
have thought our bad run of injuries would be over.
Unfortunately, for Millsy mainly, it was not. A small hill in his goal mouth has caused him the freakiest of injuries. One dislocated ankle and one broken leg.
The pitches at Stanley Park need addressing.
4-4-2 was today’s formation. Mills in nets. Back quartet right to left, returning to the starting side Clarkey, Ross, Andy Mac and Neil. Midfield Mercer, George, Daz Woz and Dance Mat. Upfront our dueling duo Wozzer and Sean.
With 5 goals separating the two strikers, the race to finish as the clubs 2007/2008 top goal scorer was well and truly on.
With Fiss missing, George took responsibility of the arm band and what a sterling job he did. After ten minutes of condemning the Brun to their own box, Captain George took the game by the scruff of the neck and set the standard for the rest of the team.
A whipped Mercer corner to the back post was forced home off George’s head. 1-0 us.
More pressure followed. Brun were starting to show why they are propping up the league table. Struggling to find each other with some lack luster passing, ever so slightly out of shape and feeling the Excelsior pressure they leaked 2 more.
The first was a rather intelligent goal from Lonsdale. Sean received the ball on the edge of the Brun’s box and was forced out to the touch line. As Sean shaped to square the ball the keeper readied himself to collect by coming off his line leaving a nice opening for a Lonsdale outside of the boot finish between keeper and near post.
2-0 us and Lonsdale 6 goals clear of Wozzer.
Wozzer made it 3 after a great through ball from his brother, Daz Woz. Running on to the ball and finishing well. Bringing the difference between himself and Sean back to 5 and putting the game past the Brun Grove.
Half time 3-0. Some nice stuff played in the first half. The message was more of the same.
It was not long before Wozzer got his hatter and our forth and fifth of the day. More solo running at a back line that has been breached more times than a group four prison and the hat trick was complete.
Wozzer was having a great day at their expense, pace and power proved the difference (and probably a metric tonne in weight).
Job almost done and looking like the first clean sheet of the season. A nice Brun through ball eluded our back line, allowing their striker to nip in and finish past Mills. This is when Mills picked up his injury, running to meet the striker and having to come to a sudden stop on the incline.
After a change in personnel, an ambulance visit and Steve Gaffer taking the gloves we were ready to re start the game with the score 5-1.
We would have taken one conceded and said good effort but Steve has not been in nets for some time and was leaking like a Bride on her honeymoon.
One went in from a corner and the other a 30 yard chip from the ever lasting Mumrah, Wai Tsang.
5-3
Wozzer grabbed us another after a great move involving young Danny, Scholes, Sean, Mercer and Wozzer, who applied the tap in finish. Another 6-3 victory - you come to an Excelsior game and you get goals.
Man of the Match – Craig Worrell. Four goals and gave the Brun Grove back line a nightmare.
Neil worked as hard as ever and deserves a mention under this title, good effort from young Danny and Mercer had a quality first half.
Get well soon to Millsy. The suspected broken toe nail turned out to be a broken leg and dislocated ankle. I knew it was serious straight away.
Didn’t I Merce???!!!???
Well done fellas. Not the best football played today but job done and 3 points in the bag. We’ve moved up to a respectable position in the league however I still feel we will be branded as under achievers and in my opinion, rightly so.
Well done again lads.
Fiss – looking forward to awards night and the all day bender that will become it.
Pretty much sums up the
Pretty much sums up the game, as usual Christopher a sterling match report.
Credit to George who took the game by the scruff and drove us to victory and wazzle for some cute finishing and Neil for some endless running and quality tackling, Bravo.
And for you Chris Christofferson I will see you tomorrow (wed) with Lisa to take those stitches out of your leg - i'll try and get some video footage of the procedure (for the benefit of the website of course);)
Laters
Why thank you Macca
Cheers Macilroy.
Looking forward to getting the stitch removed so I can don a shirt on Sunday while your cheesing it up.
Whatever you do Macca don't forget that caliper.
Steve, that one you tipped over the bar? Think you made a meal a feast pal.
Come on Steve, you love it pal.

Welcome home Mills.
Can't wait to see these pics then. This is gunna be one sick site!!!
Once you've mastered coming off your line in a one on one situation then we may have a roll for you as coach/kit washer.
It'll be good to see you on the touch line giving us your support pal, after all we deserve it, carrying your fat ass off the pitch on Sunday with you crying like a girl was no easy feat.
Even if you will be sitting in cripple corner on Sunday buddy, it won't be forever.
Take it easy, break a leg
Fiss - my arm band misses me
distraction from injury corner
Player ratings anyone, or are we bored of that game now? I'm not bored yet so....
Mills 8 (faultless until tackled by the mole hill)
Clarkey 7 (solid, dependable)
Neil 7 (good support for Danny on the left)
Andy Mac 7 (strong performance)
Ross Hoofball 7 (needs to learn to take a touch, otherwise good)
Dance Mat 5 (personally thought he had a shocker)
Dezzy Woz 7 (quiet game, good through ball for his brother)
George 8 (commanding game from the skipper, good goal)
Seano 7 (quieter game, well taken goal)
Wozza 9 (thats what he's all about)
YTS Danny 8 (wasn't sure about this boy at first, didn't think he was as good as Alex but did well on debut)
Hilario Downing 5 (I'm sorry but letting Wai score from 40 yards!!!)
Scholes 6 (struggled to stamp his authority on the game)

Bored??!!! No way
Mills 6 (Didn't have much to do, when he did, he broke his leg)
Clarkey 7 (Had a good game, rarely tested)
Neil 7 (Didn't do much wrong, rarely tested)
Andy Mac 7 (Good outting, got caught in possession only once, rarely tested)
Ross Hoofball 7 (Usual good game, rarely tested)
Dance Mat 6 (Needs more bottle/confidence. Doesn't get the ball often and therefore not in game, possibly played out of position?)
Dezzy Woz 6 (Does he have a short game? Did head the ball once tho, would like to see him pass to people other than family members)
Mercer 7 (Class 1st half, quiet second)
George 8 (Solid game, even a frustrated George played well)
Seano 7 (Odd moment of magic when linking up the play, would like to see more of that passing. Acted like a bit of a dick towards the end trying to get a laugh. 90 mins of concentration required)
Wozza 9 (4 goals in one game, enough said)
YTS Danny 8 (Great 1st game. Loads of guts, proved to me he's ready. Had the ball in the back of the net)
Hilario Downing 5 (Wai 40 yarder. Filled in well when needed)
Scholes 6 (Not enough minutes on the pitch to prove)
Beg to differ with Merce in a big way re: Dance Mat.
Fiss
opinions
Its a game of opinions my armbanded friend. From my angle he didn't have his best game. Much like a young Carey Baird, needs to release the ball and stop running into people. Doubtless talent however.
ratings the one that counts
Millsy 8 Looked good upto the break looked liked he had wiped the lard of his gloves.
Neil 8 looking for that illusive goal, talkabout run all day, he ran like forrest, it will come.
clarky 7 solid as ever looked like he had never been out the team. Came close again pushed the keeper.
Andy Mac solid performance, he does what is required.
ros cascilas 7 Does well in his centre half role commands n dominates needs to take a touch n enjoy it.
Dance matt 6 Still finding his feet shows that bit of brilliance that we know he has needs to produce mor frequently.
George 8 Great goal led by example perfect choice for stand in skipper
Darren worrall 7 needs to stop looking for that superstar ball and pal easy sometimes.
Merce 7.5 Good first half drifted out of it 2nd half.
Lonsdale 7 Solid good running needs to concentrate for longer showed what then can do tho wen they interlink up front, brave performance with his bad thumb.
Wossa 9 4 goals great day at the office should of had at least 6 tho took the partnership to 52 for the season m/o/m.
subs :
hilario tanker downing 7 i think 5 was a bit harsh only the wonder goal was my fault couple of good saves n since its been over a year since been in net. you lot are ruthless.
Danny boy 7 good debut rode his first hard challenge could have what it takes to be good player for us.
Scholsey.6.5 did what he had to do needs to be influential but that will come.
nFISS 9 fAN OF THE WEEK WHAT CAN WE SAY SHOLUD BE ON THE SIDE LINES MORE OFTEN DOES MORE MOVEMENT OF IT THAN HE DOES ON IT
Fan of the week
Again, i beg to differ!!!
Sidelines more often?
More movement off than on!!!
Fan of the week? I'll take.
I kicked, headed and challenged for every ball on that side line!! I was just as fucked as you were when that dipper left Wai's 90yr old foot.
Opinions are what makes this team great.
Fiss - wondering why the Gaffer never game Macca a rating?!?
well it wasnt a forty yarder

5 is a harsh score pal but 6 is the average score in that the player didn't do anything out of the ordinary and if a couple of mistakes were made etc you drop down a point! Obviously never played PRO EVO ;-)
That said nice one for steppin in, we all know you're feelings towards the position
All best for Sunday

Wo wo wo Mr Harrop I may not of played well but there's no need not to give me a rating surely that's just harsh you bitch!!!
Millsy - 7 (Did what he had to do and in fairness only conceeded 1 of the 3 on the day)
Bobby Dazzler - 7 (Again didn't have to do anything over the top as there left winger was toss, would've love to see his effort go in just to admire the celebrations that would've followed)
Neil - 8 (Like a little pissing ferret running up and down that wing looking for that prized first goal of the season)
Andy Mac - 7 (I'll give you a half decent mark although not sure whether it was you or Ross who was marking there forward for there 1st goal, but I'll be generous)
Ross - 7 (I'm gonna start crying soon if Ross doesn't start taking a touch, literally I'm gonna walk off the pitch, hug Steve and cry on his shoulder)
Merc - 7 was an 8 (Awesome first half got his second wind after 25 mins then lost it, nah didn't get much service second half cause ball was mainly down the left)
Danny - 8 (Thought Danny did what he needed to, but must be getting extremely confused as everyone screams at him to run with the ball then when he does and loses it you all scream at him again)
George - 8 (Definitely our very own Graeme Souness in that Centre Midfield. Took his goal very well and made me laugh constantly with the aggression he shows when someone looses the ball)
Daz Worrall - 6.5 (Set up a goal very well put drifted out after that very saw him again)
Sean - 7 (A little put off by his swollen thumb but scored and didn't really need to do alot after that)
Woz - 9 (Scored 4 what else is needed to be said)
Danny Boy - 6 (Got tackled cant remember doing much after that)
Gaffer - 6 (I'll give you a 6 after I enjoyed the tip onto the bar gaffer)
"Thought Danny did what he
"Thought Danny did what he needed to, but must be getting extremely confused as everyone screams at him to run with the ball then when he does and loses it you all scream at him again"
I am getting deja vu! Thats exactly what you bstrds did to me!
Poor Carey
Do you still have nightmares? I seem to remember it was mainly me screaming at you to PASS!!!! Now its just Wozzer!!
Carey passing the ball??? You havin a laugh.
Carey sometimes when you hear the word 'pass' do you confuse it with 'run'??
We never needed to tell you to run with the ball you just did it pal we did need pliers and a blow torch to extract the fucker from you tho.
Fiss
